Today a few members of the Knowledge Park Innovation Committee met at Winthrop University with David Wohl, Dean of Visual and Performing Arts and Tom Stanley, Chair of the Department of Fine Arts to discuss the future Makerspace located in the Rutledge Building.
A Makerspace is a place individuals come together to work on designing and building projects. Spaces like this provide the necessary tools, materials, and technologies to allow hands on exposure and participatory learning. Makerspaces support learning in an informal “play-focused,” hands-on environment that brings together an interest in art, science, technology, and design.
From this meeting it was clear the Innovation Committee was impressed and are eager to use a space like this to bring the community of Rock Hill together. The tentative open house for this space is towards the end of April 2016.
